well our little tree-hugging adventure is coming to an end, but we did make it to the oregon zoo for 2 dollar tuesday. apparently so did everyone else in the portland area. it was well worth the chaos!soph had her first bus riding experience. the parking lots were full so we had to be shuttled over to the zoo by school bus. yes that's right folks. and i realized how much i never missed those hot, sticky, brown, sweat-stained seats.
once there, allie found lots of things to blend in with! yes i was highly entertained that she wore a zebra shirt to the zoo. thanks al!

i think it was nap time at the zoo. we saw this more than anything...
we met up with my long lost church buddies i grew up with, lori & marsha. yep lori had that little baby today!! {and for her sake... she just got done chasing kylie in the waterfall} ;)
soph and kylie. they must be best friends. they were matching at the zoo.
kylie had fun in the water while sophie slept in the stroller the whole time. i guess we know what we'll do instead of going to the zoo the next time we want to take our one year olds!
this is for you landen. they gave us these hideous meercat masks when we entered. landen has this thing for the show, meercat manor. anyone heard of it? so we fanned ourselves with meercats just for you!
again, us ellison girls are so easily entertained. give us a silver goat statue, and a girl with a zebra shirt and we can have hours of laughter.
i don't have a picture, but i also snagged a lime snowcone while in the heat. if you know me, you know how much this made my day. ;) especially while surrounded by animals.

Funny and cute shots! I have a picture of myself by that same silver statue! I think it gets ridden quite a lot...
Meerkat Manor is a funny show. It's amazing how much humanization they add through the narative.
Haha you would have loved that zebra ride back in the day! :) You and Allie look so much alike now days. That's so fun that you got to see the church buddies--I can't believe Lori had her second already!! Very exciting! It looks like you guys had a great trip!

so for family shots i have a telephoto/zoom lens that came with my camera kit. i think it's the 55-200 mm VR. I LOVE this lens, but i'm no expert and am sure there are better ones out there too. i'm actually pretty clueless when it comes to lenses. i'd check out www.kenrockwell.com b/4 buying a new one to make sure you get the best/highest reccomended one. yeah, the 50 mm lens pretty much stinks for family shots but it's other wise pretty good.
now i have a question for you. you have the d40 right? the 50 mm doesn't auto focus on it, but all your pics look so crisp. half the time i don't use the 50 mm because i'm not quick enough with the manual focus in order for them to not turn out blurry...so i end up getting good shots in the end but it takes like 20 blurry ones and maybe i'll get one that isn't. do you have this problem with that lens or are you just an expert focuser??! lol.
I haven't been to the zoo for so long! It looks like you guys had so much fun. . .we'll have to go sometime.
kristen, i feel 'ya!! these pictures WERE actually shot with the 50mm 1.8.not the 200. i love that lens b/c it lets in SO much light. but b/c it doesn't AF on the d40x, yep you have to shoot a gazillion to get one that's not blurry, unless you're an expert manual focuser. ha. which i'm not.

ok, how many more times could i comment on this one post? seriously. but, in response to your question.. i just got some discounted fabric at the fabric store. i don't even know what kind.. it's kind of a cotton/linen and because of that it was a little see-through with the light shining through, so i had to darken it up with photoshop a bit. BUT, if you buy a heavier material of fabric i'm sure it would work a little better:) thanks for the nice comments though. you're too sweet.
