two posts in one day? well, both of my girls are sleeping in the same room tonight for the first time (cross your fingers, key word "sleeping") and i had some extra time now that i've retired the bow-making for a few days.
UPDATE: the night went great! they never woke each other up. piper slept for 12 hours (6:30-6:30) and when i went in to get her so i could feed her, sophie stayed sleeping until 7:30. it's currently 8:45 and piper is still asleep since being fed. now if every night could go this well!
today was my half birthday. 24 and a half now, thank you. who really celebrates half birthdays though right? unless your birthday is christmas eve or something crazy like that. well, apparently in our family these days are to be celebrated. landen and sophie ran to the bank but came back with a box full of cupcakes from our neighborhood babycakes. yum.
(sorry the pic is so bad, we had limited time before we devoured)

i think the oreo and turtle cupcakes ended up being the winners.
and now to the real record. this girl is hard to keep up with lately. it seems like she is learning something or trying something new every day, and i love it. (ok i don't love the endless time outs for hitting and not listening, but she's two. it's been pretty good). the past few weeks we are finally hitting the dress up stage. (can you see the tutu?)

she wants to wear anything she can get her hands on, including: jah-ets (jackets), mom & dad's shoes, boots, hats, jewelry, bows, anything. yesterday she wore her bee costume around and dad's giant t-shirt that hung to her ankles. love it.
and tonight?
she said family prayers solo for the first time. like went full force into it when we knelt down, and talked for a good minute. she usually wants help and just repeats whatever we say. we were busting up it was so cute. i think it went something like this:
"fatha, ank-ee (thank thee) food, bess us, park, fun (we didn't go to the park today), mommy, daddy, pipey, -yadda yadda yadda i have no idea- name, jesus, amen."
our jaws dropped when she was done and she wanted high fives from everyone as she jumped around yelling "i did it!" apparently she gets it.
oh and jumping? yeah, she jumps now. it might only be 3 inches off the ground, but she does it non-stop all day, she thinks it's so cool. only took her 27 months to learn how. ;)
one more first. i know i look huge in this picture but it's a landmark for our family (not me looking huge). ever since my 23rd birthday, sophie has been afraid of balloons. like screaming if she is in the same room as one. i have no idea why. no popping stories or anything, just totally afraid. krissi and dallen were up here on saturday and we were at red robin (which is at gillette stadium where the patriots play, hence the picture) and she took a balloon home with her. a "yew-woh boon" hallelujah. she conquered her fear.

see what i mean about growing up so fast? here are my two little sisters loving each other today. my dad gave them these "little sister" "big sister" shirts when he was here (piper's blessing weekend, more on that later).

OH and em! we played while dallen & krissi were at the temple on saturday. these are for you kriss! don't you love her gummy smile?

here's my little project from tonight.
soph loves memorizing. everything. you should see her with her i-spy books, it's kind of creepy. i'm thinking of starting her on states and capitals or prophets or presidents or something. she could do it. but i thought i would start simple. we live so far away from our family, but i really want her to know who everyone is. (like next month when ryan, sarah, ruthie, and tate are coming! yay!) so i made her a little magnetic board of our immediate-extended family.

super simple, and fun finding everyone's pictures. i could have gone one step further and put their names on the pictures, but i kept it simple. i'll probably make name pieces later that she can match them to.
i just printed each picture "wallet" size, laminated them, and put magnets on the back.

now she gets to match who goes to who. which means kyle, you have to get married, and... just kidding. she did pick "bobo's" face first. (that's what she calls my mom).

wish me luck tomorrow morning. it might be a war zone in there.

That magnet board is such a good idea! Very clever.
your magnet board is AWESOME! I love that you put Biz's "sr pic" and me with my hooter hider - true to form. Thanks for the pics of EM!
You guys are the cutest family ever. Oh and I have that exact same yellow tank top (thank you, Gap) and I, too, have found that pictures of me in it are a bad idea. Still, you look great!
Ooooh, I love the magnet board! I just have to say, you are amazing. honestly. how do you get so much accomplished?
in answer to your questions:
1. I made my mother in law go shopping with me, and I basically chose everyone's outfits for the family pictures. They weren't all new, mind you, but I did kind of drive her crazy with my specificity. :)
2. the jeans are MEK, and I love them. I wear them nearly everyday. They were my present to myself when I lost the baby weight... I may have just used that as an excuse to buy myself a new pair of jeans. :)
3. oh no, I do not jump wakes. nope. I tubed. With Mack. Very slowly. I know, lame. I've gotten up on a wake board once, and it just wasn't fun enough to me to go out in the yucky water with seaweed and fishies brushing my toes. yuck.
and last thing: we're making the trip up to the cabin a yearly thing, and whoever can make, can make it. so maybe if you take a trip out next summer, we can plan it around you guys. I want you to come!!
happy half birthday! those cupcakes look yummylicious! that magnet board with the pictures is such a cute idea!
What a smart idea about the magnet board. I love all the pics. They are super cute.
you are so lucky that piper sleeps so well! and you look totally cute and not huge - ever :) and i love the magnet board. i am going to have to copy since all my family lives away too! oh and seriously maybe i will send some felt your way...that would be awesome!
Your girls are so darn cute! I love the matching shirts! And I love the magnet board! Such a cute idea!
I love Soph's prayer cute girl.! The magnet board is a fantastic idea. We have just been looking at blogs to practice names and faces.
oh and super jealous of the sleeping baby. Mine were 9 months old before I got 8 straight hours!
Of course she knows who Bobo is, she knows who loves her the VERY most!!! :)
Yeah, way to go Kri. Now I have to make a creepy face for Sophocles to recognize me at all. Great. This'll make it WAY harder to be the cool uncle.
Or maybe my normal face will look funny to her... hmmmm...
