so most of you know how i feel about winter... here... on the east coast... away from my family... in the ice... in the dirty snow... in frigid temps... ok i'll stop. i'm not that pessimistic. i'm just learning how to deal with a toddler while stuck in a 900 square foot space for 6 months. and can i just say, a 7 month old (last winter) is much easier than an almost-two-year-old (this winter). but i'm learning, i'm growing. thank goodness for friends, the mall, nemo, the library, and yes... the thought of summer in our near future (granted i'll have a newborn... just go with me).
we did a little grocery shopping today and were gazing at the strawberries for quite awhile. luckily sophie shares the same love for these little babies as i do (unlike landen... that's another story). we picked out the best batch and went straight home to devour. i don't know what it is, but everything about a strawberry makes me think of summer. the look, the taste, the scent. sophie dug through the grocery sacks until she found our plastic carton of yumminess.
well, devour we did. we both just sat there smiling at each other. she was probably dreaming of the beach trips we'll take, wiggling her toes in the sand with the summer sun shining down on her little cheeks. ok... or just the fact she had a full tummy. but that's what i was dreaming of. and somehow in our little claustrophobic ice world we were nice and warm and happy. ok now don't get me wrong. i do love playing in the snow, watching the first snow fall, snowboarding, drinking hot cocoa by the fire, and all the fun that winter brings. but today i just needed that little reminder of summer. and a reminder to keep enjoying what i have now because it all changes too quickly. thanks little plastic carton.

Well said. I'm feeling like this snow is never going to go away. Maybe a carton of strawberries is what I need to lift my spirits:)
Yum! Even if I'm not living in an ice world a strawberry sounds heavenly right now!
