ooo i love a free find. and the east coast is full of them. you know how if you had an old couch or tv or something substantial, you'd sell it in a garage sale, on craigslist, donate it to goodwill, or lastly take it to the dump? not here. people put anything and everything on the side of the road. it literally looks like the neighborhoods have living rooms sitting at the end of their driveways. how do people always have so much to get rid of?
and so... trash day happens to be one of my favorite days of the week. call me a dumpster diver or whatever you will, but when i see the cans and bags lining the curbs i can't help but look a little longer and drive a little slower to see if there is anything ripe for the picking. i'm pretty sure landen is fully embarrassed of this habit of mine. but after today, i couldn't be more proud.
driving down the road today to pick up landen and i saw two chairs sitting on the side of the road. "note to self... stop by on the way home to see if they're still there." that's usually one of my rules. first time by is just a look-down, second time by- if it's still there, it was meant to be. and do you think they were there? of course! because who would want two nasty old beat up chairs? ME! landen happily dashed out of the car to grab the black beauty. i got home and couldn't bear the thought of the other one so lonely on the curb, so landen ran back over to grab it. on the way home (a block away from the other ones) he found three more! and snapped a pic to show me. he knows how to make me happy. one more trip back and now i have three happy old beat up chairs (i had to narrow it down to three people. those of you who have seen the inside of my apartment are probably laughing at where i'm going to put these) to do whatever i want with for pictures. wohoo.
(gotta love the kix sprinkled on the ground underneath. we like to leave proof wherever we go)
big intro i know. but aren't they awesome? i'm so excited to paint and rough them up even more for some fun photo props this fall. you might be seeing them in some pictures coming up!
this goes right along with the desk i snagged off the curb a few months ago, after landen told me not to. well now i have a crafting desk and it's going to be so cute after i get done with it.

how funny, i used to have that desk. the bottom 2 drawers are connected and are actually 1 big drawer, right?? at least that's how mine was. lol
lol! really, honey, they're darling! will you please post the finished product? and please do all the shameless street picking you can whilst still in Boston, it's as good as it's ever gonna get!
Can I admit that probably half of our furniture might have been set out on the curb at some point? Coat of paint makes 'er brand spanking new my friend!

Those are fabulous!!! Especially the black one, I think that's an antique! You've joined the club, huh? Remember my finds in Hawaii - the girls were appalled that I would do something like that! haha One man's trash is another man's treasure!!

I envy you! When my sister lived in Chicago she experienced the same thing and picked up her entire bedroom set (-the mattress and boxspring), dining room table, and desk. I think it's awesome!
i love looking for furniture castaways, but so far haven't been this lucky- that black chair is going to be great, and i love that desk! i can already see the cute knobs you could put on it. fun! and i've been searching for photog chairs, i'm so jealous!
