berry good

we took a trip down to new haven connecticut on thursday to visit krissi and play. wow is it good to have some family so close! they'll be back up here this weekend. krissi made us a yummy lunch and then it was off to the berry farm.

oh heaven. this place was awesome. we drove up over a little hill and BAM! rolling green hills full of yummy produce. if you know me, you know i'm a little obsessed with berries. i grew up in oregon though, what did you expect? we picked berries off the side of the road, people would spend months trying to kill their "annoying" blackberry bushes. gotta love em.

so we started with blueberries.

gang's all here. (ok minus dallen, and notice sophie in the background picking up the "ground ones" lovely)

my favorite part of the day? watching sophie pick blueberries. she totally got it. "only pick the blue ones." and she did. well, sometimes they were off of the ground but we mostly ended up with blue! then we started hearing "mmm, mmm, mmm." she figured out she could just eat them out of the bucket. moral of the story: don't hang the bucket around your two-year-old's neck. at least she enjoyed herself.

em was a little trooper, kickin in the stroller.

sorry ladies, he's all mine. babies and berries, what more could you want from a man?

we picked raspberries and peaches as well. but i enjoyed the view from the car with a hungry baby. ;)

results? ok.

strawberry (somehow those snuck in from the grocery store) & peach freezer jam. how do you go back to store bought after this? we try to make enough every summer to last us all year. YUM.

and blueberry crisp, double the crisp, enjoyed with friends. i'll post this on my recipe blog. you must indulge warm, with breyer's *vanilla bean* ice cream melting on top. double YUM.

oh yeah. back to new haven. we ended the day with some yummy pizza and a crazy (almost 3 hour) drive home in a major thunderstorm. thanks to the rain, my girls slept the whole way. such a fun day, thanks again kriss!

ps... the carseat covers in my last post i got here. yes, i could totally make these. yes, i'm totally lazy and loved this fabric combo.

pps... i just realized every time i edit my posts and re-publish them they show up on google reader like a hundred times. is this true? someone let me know who uses reader!

I use reader, and no, it only shows up once. I've had that panic myself, though. :)

Your berry picking looks wonderful -- no such berry goodness in Arizona. It cracks me up when a tiny tiny container of blackberries is $4. Well, it cracks me up and then I get sad because who will shell out $4 for 10 blackberries when you've picked them for free for so long.

i panic about that all the time, but your posts never show up more than once. phew!

i love berries...mmm. travis just got some half off at fresh & easy and we've been loving it. max is a blueberry addict! by the way, i am making a really yummy dessert that calls for berries...and since you have a bunch, you should try it! i haven't tasted it yet cuz it's still in the freezer but it looks delicious and it wasn't too hard to make!
