something clicked

we have been waiting for sophie to learn the phenomenon of "feeding herself." lets get a few things straight first:
1. sophie loves food... i mean LOVES it.
2. sophie loves putting toys, clothes, tags, and random objects from the ground in her mouth.
3. sophie loves putting her fingers to her mouth and sucking on them. especially her thumb.

so you would think if we put some cheerios in front of her (which she loves to eat) that she would pick them up and put them in her mouth... right? WRONG. she will pick them up, but then something always malfunctions between her brain and her hand at that point. and if you try to help her put her hand to her mouth she immediately screams and pulls her hand away and drops the cheerios. yeah totally not worth forcing her to eat a cheerio.

but then last night... SOMETHING CLICKED. (like how i brought my story and title together?) i had some cheerios (actually they were strawberry apple puffs) in my hand and she picked one up and ate it. just like that! it was a january miracle.

(please don't mind our grunge child or my nasal voice)

Good going Sophie! It's amazing when they finally catch on. Though, for a while, it seems eating on their own is almost an accident. But fun to watch just the same!
