happy 8 months (and 2 days)

today i'm feeling extremely grateful for my little EIGHT month old! can you believe it? when we got to boston she was TWO and now she's EIGHT. i don't even have to say times flies- i think we all feel that way! but i do have to start with how she really celebrated the day.
we were at lunch with a bunch of friends and all their good babies. emphasis on good. i have a nasty sinus infection so i'm constantly blowing my nose and getting stuffed up. well soph was sitting on my lap and i was blowing my nose again and then it happened. she pulled my huge glass of ice cold diet coke down on top of both of us. (sorry for those of you that were there and have to relive this again!) she kind of let out some yelps from all the ice and freezing cold liquid now soaked in our clothes. we sat there for an hour or so in our diet coke pants and socks and shoes and purse, etc. let's just say we definitely have our days.
so yesterday she tagged along all over the place with me. the mall, the dr.'s (in the middle of the hospital), the pharmacy, etc. she was seriously the best baby ever. no tantrums, not even crying thanks to her new love of cheerios and car keys. do i have something on my face?
even after all the shopping this morning (thanks liz for the always needed girl time!) she was still so happy when we got home. she just wanted to cuddle and laugh at me. those are the days i definitely live for.

here are a few of my favorite eight month "sophie characteristics"-

  • her fake cough/laugh to get our attention in the car
  • her attempt at crawling but really pushing herself backwards

  • how she laughs at everything i do because i'm the funniest person in the world
  • "dancing" aka: shaking her head back and forth
  • diving to get whatever she needs even if it means putting her life in danger (drowning in the bathtub would be one)
  • looking up at me to make sure i'm there and then smiling
  • finally feeding herself and getting way too excited about it (must have food in both hands
  • princess waving at strangers

i guess eight months means having a definite attitude now. i could not get a smile for the life of me.but we are loving the big girl carseat! i'm sure she'll even be facing forward in no time because she's already 20 lbs. 8 oz. and i quote the dr. yesterday "how old is she? 11 months?" well...

she looks like so much fun! sorry about the freezing diet coke though - i bet that wasn't very fun...hey i was actually going to ask you about carseats...they have some that are like supposed to be a little bigger and fit up to 32 lbs. and 1 year or something...do you think it's worth it to get one of those? obviously babies grow out of the normal ones but my thing is maybe we should just get a "normal" sized one because even if we get a "big" one we'll probably end up getting a new seat at 8-10 months anyways. what do you think? and your infant seat...were you happy with it? what kind did you get?
oh - one last thing...i ordered some 8X8 scrapbooks from this place online and they were $3.70 each (normally like $12.99). i thought i'd tell you about it because they were really cheap and i got them and they look great...definitely a good buy! i don't know if you're in need of any scrapbooks, but i thought i'd let you know! let me know if you want the website!

okay- so this is probably kinda weird, but- im going to give my opinion on the car seat thing:

1- though common thought is 20lbs 1 year, the apa has changed it to "as long as possible" since its a lot safer for the babe to be rear-facing. so- to kami- i would recommend getting a seat that faces rear for as long as you can- some babies like facing front a lot better, but if your seat is desgined to stay rear for longer, that is definately the safest route to go. :)

Kristen- 20.5 lbs?!?!?!?!?! CRAZY!!!!!!! christian just barely craked 20 and we were so proud!! hahaha- go soph!! :D

I'm sorry but that diet coke story made me laugh out loud. That is terrible of me huh! I can only imagine the patience you learn when you become a mom! Thanks for the update!

Did you get her weight and height at the doctor's? I'd be interested to know what percentile she's in for height. She is a lengthy gal. Can she hold her own bottle to feed herself yet? Boston took FOREVER to be able to use a sippy cup while in the carseat.
Don't even worry about friday night, I feel for you. I have to say we missed you at the table but I am sad your time in the car didn't heal you. I hope it all passes quickly so we can redo our date night.
Sophster was a rock star at the restaurant. What a well mannered lady!

Well-- it is not my news, so I probably better not say. But it would definitely be worth looking into the recent happenings in the good ol' BRMB :)
