one of those days

it's just kind of been one of those days (or past 14 hours i should say)... you know the ones. sophie was having a really hard time sleeping last night. she started waking up in the middle of the night a few weeks ago, which is fine by me considering she sleeps 12 hours a night normally. but last night it was like every hour or two and when i'd put her back in her bed she just wanted to play. so then we would lay there listening to her talk to herself. i think she really is going to take after her mother...

then of course today there was no sleeping in (which she usually lets me get away with). and the second i try to get something done she is fussing about it. we are already on our second nap of the day and it's lunch time. that is why i love sleeping children (if you can actually get them to sleep). they are just so much happier. happy soph=happy kristen=happy ending. i guess i just needed to get that out of my system.

luckily there is always a happier note... tis the season. i have seemingly been obsessed with baking for halloween lately (but really when am i not obsessed with baking?). i'm seriously not that big a fan of pumpkin. like if there was a pecan pie and a pumpkin pie in front of me i would take the pecan pie. but i made some yummy chocolate chip pumpkin bread last week and thought... why not try cookies? ok i really thought i was addicted to the pumpkin bread... no no. you MUST try these cookies. oh bless. warm right out of the oven, cakey and moist (was that descriptive enough for you?)- amazing! i'm giving you all this recipe and am expecting you to try it! now go bake!

Frosted Pumpkin Cookies

INGREDIENTS
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup white sugar
½ cup brown sugar
1 cup canned pumpkin puree
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

DIRECTIONS
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, ground cloves, and salt; set aside.
2. In mixer, cream together the butter and sugars. Add pumpkin, egg, and 1 teaspoon vanilla to butter mixture, and mix on low until creamy. Mix in dry ingredients. Drop on cookie sheet by tablespoonfuls.
3. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes in the preheated oven. Cool cookies and frost with your favorite cream cheese frosting!
*i also added about 1/4 tsp. ginger with the spices

i'm sorry! i hope it gets better - i'm sure i'll be able to sympathize soon. but - as for those cookies...i'm not a fan of like pumpkin chocolate chip cookies, but i'm liking the frosting idea, so maybe i'll try these - they look super good! good photography by the way!

those cookies look so yummy!! I want to try out the recipe! By the way, I have this cute little outfit I was supposed to give to you before you moved- and being the forgetful person that I am- I never did, and by now the outfit is only for summer and therefore, too late for your cute little one to wear it. I see it every time i open the closet in our extra room. So instead, can I get your address? I have something to mail
